In 1948, Cyriel Delannoit became European Champion for the first time. Exactly fifty years after this glorious victory, the Province of East Flanders erected a statue in his honor at the then main entrance of the De Gavers provincial estate in Geraardsbergen. The artwork was created by Jean-Pierre Coopman, another renowned Belgian boxer.
