The Buchhornbrunnen is one of the younger landmarks in Friedrichshafen. It is located in the heart of the old town - on the Adenauerplatz right in front of the town hall. The fountain was designed and built by sculptors Barbara and Gernot Rumpf. It was inaugurated in 2001 and has since become very popular with children. The Buchhorn Fountain embodies an imaginative interplay of past and present, history and mythology, homeland and cosmopolitanism as well as art and technology. Centrally in the fountain basin is a stylized tree, a beech, with large leaf shapes of domed stainless steel sheet, which are arranged easily and flying over each other. The abstracted form is reminiscent of the tree itself as well as its fruits, the beechnuts. Together with the horn lying diagonally in the fountain basin, the word "Buchhorn", the original name of the city of Friedrichshafen, is derived. Other figures testify to the industrial development of the city.
