The old town hall of Nordhausen is located on the market square in the center of the historic old town. The large, representative building in the Renaissance style has, among other things, a bell tower with a clock, spiral staircase and baroque dome as well as magnificent arcade windows on the ground floor. The city's coat of arms is also emblazoned on its facade.

The old town hall of the Thuringian district town of Nordhausen was built between 1608 and 1610 in the Renaissance style. The first written mention of the construction of a Nordhausen town hall dates back to 1360. In 1562, repairs to the town hall became necessary, and between 1608 and 1610 there was a major renovation. The formerly open arcade was used by several retail stores and was provided with windows in 1883. During the air raids on Nordhausen in 1945, large parts of the town hall burned down; the reconstruction was completed in 1952. A stone coat of arms above the eastern entrance tells the legend of the city's founding by the Roman Emperor Theodosius II in Latin in 410.
