Four main gates secured the town centre of Nordhausen (Töpfertor, Rautentor, Neuewegstor, Barfüßertor), which, with the exception of the Neuewegstor, had an inner and outer gate. All gates were demolished in the 19th century, the last city gate being the Grimmeltor in 1892. The city wall had 24 shell towers, seven battlements and two bulwarks. In addition, there were the no longer existing fortifications of the Neustadt (settlement), Altendorf and Frauenberg. (Wikipedia)

On the Johanniswall in Nordhausen you can see the medieval city wall very well.
