Since the early 1000s, Saint Odulphus has been associated with this church and its chapter as a patron saint. This is evidenced by several preserved seals of the Loon chapter. However, Odulphus is not a saint of this region, but rather of Brabant or Utrecht or Stavoren. How did he end up in Borgloon?
It was the count's House of Loon that brought the veneration of Odulphus from Utrecht when it settled in Borgloon. The Loon counts were related to the Carolingian family Balderik from Utrecht.
The veneration of the Balderiks for Saint Odulphus was continued by the count's House of Loon. The Romanesque church of 1131 was dedicated to Saint Odulphus (together with Saints Peter and Paul, S. Salvator, Holy Cross and Holy Mary). After fires at the church, new relics were brought from Utrecht (1180, 1274, again 1421) to Borgloon at the request of the Saint Odulphus chapter.
On June 12, the feast day of Saint Odulphus was and is celebrated. In Borgloon, a separate Saint Odulphus procession took place on that Sunday until the 1960s.

The St. Odulfus Church in Borgloon is a cruciform basilica with five naves, dedicated to St. Odulfus. It is located in the center of the city (Speelhof, also known as Vrijthof), close to the site where Loon Castle used to be.

The church was recently restored. The murals have been restored. There is now also a carillon with 28 bells. In terms of heritage, we note the addition of religious heritage from the Colen monastery in Loon and, more modernly, a work of art by architects Gijs and Van Vaerenbergh. Some baptismal fonts were also returned to the church. Full report on vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/2020/12/11/sint-odulphuskerk-van-borgloon-herbergt-na-een-grondige-restaura
