The Hulsberg hiking trail, hidden between fruit trees, a poplar, reddish beech hedges, a hawthorn hedge and a stately chestnut tree, used to be the “vault” and is currently still the “chapel” dedicated to Our Lady of Loreto. Legend has it that the hermits of the Hulsberg would ring the bell of the Loreto chapel whenever they ran out of food.
Hulsberg chapel and hermitage were built in 1689 by Nicolaas Poislevache, dean of the chapter of Borgloon, who made the pilgrimage to Loreto in Italy. The vault was originally located on top of the Hulsberg, where the castle now stands. The first hermit is Martin Derwael, named Joseph. At the end of the 18th century, Samuel Ulens is the owner, who sells the vault in 1810 to Claes, owner of Rullingen castle. When the construction of Hulsberg Castle started in 1882, the buildings were demolished and rebuilt at the foot of Hulsberg, south of the castle. The last hermit died in 1897.

After the last hermit left, the hermitage continued to serve as a farm for some time; today, only the chapel remains. A facade stone inside the building mentions the foundation of the first chapel and the year 1689.
The chapel is located in the middle of the fields, on a hedged plot, with a chestnut tree, a willow and a pear tree. It is a rectangular building with two bays under a saddle roof (slate). Brick construction with finishing of marlstone for the water mouldings and frieze with supported by brick pilasters in the longitudinal facades. Some of these materials possibly originate from the old chapel and were reused. The western facade has a window in a profiled marlstone frame, and a climbing frieze of the same material. Roof turret above the facade.

The chapel is located on a triangular plot bordered by a hawthorn hedge, along a field path along the southern flank of the Hulsberg. To the right of the entrance gate stands an impressive pollard poplar as a corner tree. There is also a pear tree on the lawn. The horse chestnut tree at the chapel was cut down.

Behind the chapel (not visible to the walker) is a family grave with a statue of Christ, which is related to the owner of the Clos les Ramiers wine estate, here in Gotem.
