The chapel was built in 1960/61 (see info sheet on site).

From 1908 to 2007, the Catholic Day of the Catholic Church took place here once a year. Diocese of Speyer (interrupted by the National Socialist era). Prominent figures of Catholicism (from church, politics, culture, etc.) were always present as guests or speakers on site. “In 2007 it became apparent that a large proportion of the old deciduous and coniferous trees on the assembly site were in danger of falling over. Because there are no funds to carry out the necessary security work, the Catholic Day has not been held in Johanniskreuz since 2008.”
