The Majakowskiring is an oval-closed street and eponymous for the local situation in the Berlin district Niederschönhausen. The district was at times the closed residential area of the most important politicians of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED) and the GDR leadership. The government representative residing in the district of Mayakovsky shielded a wall from the outside world. This remained even after the move of politicians to Wandlitz in 1960. Because of the foreclosure they also spoke of the so-called "town".Source: Wikipedia

In 1950, the two ring roads were named after the Russian poet Vladimir Mayakovsky (1893-1930). The restricted area, which can only be accessed with a special permit, was also called “small town” in Russian. After the founding of the GDR in 1949, high-ranking officials of the SED and the GDR state leadership resided in the fenced and later walled guarded residential area.
