On the easy-to-drive, paved route between Klostermoor and Flachsmeer, we come to this monument along with seating and information boards at the corner of Lindenstrasse and Russenstrasse.
The memorial is dedicated to the prisoners of war Russian forced laborers who built the 5.8 kilometer long road from Rajen in Westrhauderfehn to Wiek in Papenburg during the First World War. Two display boards provide further explanations about the background and the region.
Meanwhile, the Russenstrasse is not so nice to drive for racing cycling, not only because of the pavement, but also because of the dents. But you can, because it is a great connection between Papenburg and Rhauderfehn. The Reinkestrasse / 4 route is of course faster. Südwieke and the 3rd Südwieke, although here at Klostermoor the cycle path is missing in parts.
