The Plönlein is probably Rothenburg's best-known motif. Plönlein does not refer to a single object, but the entire area with the half-timbered houses, the Plönlein fountain, the Siebersturm and the Kobolzeller Tor.

Many think that the term Plönlein means a yellow half-timbered house in front of the entrance to the Spitalviertel. The crooked, crooked house is actually in the center of the Plönlein. Translated, the term Plönlein means "small square at the fountain", so the ensemble of the Plönlein also includes the fountain in front of the half-timbered solitaire and the two towers of the old city wall, which rise up to the left and right of it - on the left the Siebersturm, which leads to the hospital district, on the right the tower of the Kobolzeller Tor from 1360, which points the way to the Tauber Valley.
