Hiking

It is a good place to stay here in the Hemmekes. A great place for a short stop with a picnic. How about a nice juicy pear? In September you can pick them straight from the trees here. The pear trees were planted here as a reference to the story of De Witte and his father's pear tree. And of course also because pear trees are beautiful, the blossom attracts all kinds of insects and pears are simply very tasty!

Hiking

The grassland with picnic benches is called Hemmekes. Derived from the Old Dutch word 'ham' which means hollow of the knee. As a place name, the word 'ham' indicates a meadow that lies in the hollow of the knee/meander of a river. The Hemmekes are located in the bend of the Oude Demer.
