The Karlsbrunnen is the oldest fountain in the city. Since 1620 it has been crowned with a figure of Charlemagne, which was cast in Dinant. The original figure has been in the coronation hall of the town hall since 1969.
The six-ton bronze bowl with a diameter of 3.60 m is called Eäzekomp in Aachen dialect. This term is ambiguous. It can be derived from ore or translated using a pea bowl.
