historyThe Waidhändler and Biereige Paul Ziegler let build 1607 on a medieval cellar a the Zeitgeschmack of the late Renaissance appropriate attractive residential and commercial building. Already at the previous building the name "Zum kleinen und große Stockfisch" appeared. Stockfish - dried sea fish - were in the Middle Ages and in the early modern times a popular long-distance trade goods. One of the most magnificent houses of the late Renaissance invites you to explore the city from prehistory to the present. There are also references to the many authentic historical sites in the old town. Diverse special exhibitions, multimedia offers and a museum cinema always offer new reasons for a visit.
In the permanent exhibition on the ground floor, the Reformation period and the importance of Erfurt are presented.
