    Hiking

The actually not hardy, impressive Brazilian mammoth leaf, also known as giant rhubarb, has been growing here for many years along the way, in a somewhat sheltered location in the Eichtal Park.
Hopefully we can admire it here for many more years to come.

The mammoth leaf is really huge!

Gunnera manicata is native to southern Brazil and Colombia, where the plants grow in swampy locations in the mountains, at the edges of streams, spring moors and in cloud forests.

They are deciduous plants that form a creeping, loosely branching, thigh-thick rhizome with 1 or more terminal shoots.

Older plants form clumps with numerous sprouts and can "wander" several meters over time.

The leaves are round to kidney-shaped, 1.5–2 m in diameter, lobed, serrate on the margins, with spines on the veins underneath and numerous strong spines on the petiole.
