The entire Alster valley above the Fuhlsbüttler lock (actually a weir) has retained its original character. The trails are wide and easy to walk, well suited for cyclists. Despite the density of the buildings around it, you can not see them. But you can still hear the city, especially the air traffic in Fuhlsbüttel. But there are also moments when you only hear the water and the birds.

The entire Alstertal is a feast for the eyes. You can go hiking, cycling or strolling along the shore. Or you can choose the route by kayak across the water. No matter how you get around, Hamburg couldn't pass anything more beautiful than the Alster.
The Alstertal is a paradise for hikers and cyclists and runs through the districts of Fuhlsbüttel, Hummelsbüttel, Wellingsbüttel, Poppenbüttel, Lemsahl-Mellingstedt, Bergstedt and Wohldorf-Ohlstedt. The Alster Valley is part of the Alster hiking trail. In the Hamburg area, this runs parallel to the course of the river. On the larger tributaries, the Mellingbek, Saselbek and Ammersbek, idyllic cycling and hiking trails lead to other parts of the city.
The Alstertal has the great advantage that it can be easily reached by underground and S-Bahn, for example if you take the U1 to Ohlsdorf or Klein Borstel. Just a few steps away from the station, you can immerse yourself in the beautiful world of the banks of the Alster. This is constantly changing. If, at the beginning of the path, you come across houses and gardens that are beautifully situated on the Alster, the bank will later be transformed into a floodplain landscape. The path is very varied, as the Alster has to be crossed again and again during the hike.hamburg.de/wandern-ausflug-hamburg/295444/wandern-alstertal
