The evangelical town church: The introduction of the Reformation (in the Electoral Palatinate) triggered a long-running dispute (between Catholics and Reformed) about the use (13th century) of St. Gallus. On March 8, 1708, the Reformed (the latter) finally renounced the St. Galluskirche. In return, they receive the site of the former Schönauer Mönchshof in the immediate vicinity for the construction of their own church.

A baroque church is built according to the plans of the baroque master Johann Jakob Rischer. In 1720 it was inaugurated. Due to severe construction defects, however, it had to be demolished again in September 1875.

On August 27, 1878, the congregation inaugurated its new church, a neo-Gothic brick building (according to plans by Hermann Behagel).

Despite some structural elements from the past (pulpit, cladding of the galleries), today's exterior and interior design, after a renovation at the end of the 1990s (e.g. ceiling design, paintings on walls and in the choir room), again conveys the overall neo-Gothic impression.
