The small village of Niethen can be traced back to a fire clearance before 1424. The Niethener Schanze is particularly well-known as one of the best-preserved Slavic ramparts in Upper Lusatia, whose basin is 120 m long and 80 m wide. The rocky valley slope of the Kuppritz water protects the ski jump to the west, while a section wall rises up to 13 m in height to the east.
