A nature trail begins at this overview board (a project by the Palatinate Forest Association Weisenheim/Berg and POLLICHIA) with 6 stations, which you can walk - preferably in a clockwise direction - around the monster lake. (Plate no. 6 explains how the name “Ungeheuersee” came about.) You can find all the display boards and further information about the nature trail here:

The entire moor-like landscape of the Ungeheuersee is a natural landscape that is very worthy of protection, among other things. because of a very rare carnivorous plant (sundew), and should NOT be entered - even and especially not when the lake is dry. That's why there is a special wooden gate around the entire lake!
