The AN-2 ("ANNA") was built in Poland in 1968 and was in use for the GST (Society for Sport and Technology of the GDR) flying school at Schönhagen airfield until the fall of the Berlin Wall. After 1990 it was used for sightseeing flights. ANNA started for the last time on August 10, 2013. On board was a group of parachutists with an escort who wanted to go from the airport bee farm to Heringsdorf. Shortly after take-off, the pilot had to make an emergency landing due to an engine failure. All occupants survived the incident well, the plane less so. Badly damaged, it could no longer be repaired by aviation. The Förderverein Flugplatzmuseum Strausberg e.V. has rebuilt the AN-2 - as an exhibit. Since 2015 it has had its permanent place next to the tower. Source: strausberg-live.de/termin-detail.php&id=57573

There is the Doppeldecker restaurant here: highly recommended. A bit higher price level, but also super tasty food. The best there is in the region.
