Part of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley!
The name "Reiter(stellwerk)" refers to towering over the track systems.
The building on the western outskirts of the city, which dates from the 1930s, was decommissioned in 1996 and listed as a cultural monument in 2005. Although part of the Unesco World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley, the steel skeleton building was increasingly left to decay and in the past caused lengthy negotiations between the city of Bingen and Deutsche Bahn (as the owner). After all, since the State Garden Show, the footbridge for pedestrians has been the connection between the Bingen Forest and the Rheinkribben.

In 2019, construction work took place on the old signal box.

Status 2022: The signal box building was completely renovated for around 700,000 euros and now serves as a public pedestrian bridge over the tracks and as a workplace for six to eight DB bridge inspectors with a seminar and conference room (seating, tables, flipchart, etc.).

      Interesting architecture, unfortunately quite neglected.

A good opportunity for hikers to cross the wide railway line between Binger Stadtwald and the Rhine.
