It was hot in and around Lahnstein, and the hike was draining. The Ruppertsklamm is definitely a challenge, along holding ropes over slippery rocks. But the sections in the forest were pleasant, many benches and houses invite you to take a break. At the end there was coffee and cake in the castle restaurant high above the Rhine valley.

Once over the Rochusberg through the wide valley over partly graveled vineyard paths to Ockenheim and then steeply up to the Jakobsberg. There, hikers at the Friedenskreuz and the Hörnchen can expect great views over the Rhine and Nahe, across to the Hunsrück and Taunus. Then it went quickly down to Dromersheim, from where the city bus (every hour on Sundays) brings you back to Bingen for little money.
