Anís del Mono Statue

This monkey, known for its famous drink "Anís del Mono", is an emblem in the city of Badalona, ​​one of the oldest factories in Spain of this spiritual drink. This factory that was born in 1870, as the label indicates, by the brothers Vicente and José Bosch y Grau, becoming one of the most important aniseed in Spain, was a drink used in confectionery and is still marketed in supermarkets and in glasses in the current hospitality industry.
In 1897, Vicente Bosch called the first poster contest in Spain for his brand. Several of the best painters of the time were presented.2 4 In 1898 the exhibition of the works was held. The chosen one was the poster made by Ramón Casas entitled Mona y mono. Vicente Bosch was also the first to place an advertising light in 1913, in the middle of Madrid's Puerta del Sol. 2 Months later, another light was inaugurated in Plaça de Catalunya, next to Passeig de Gracia, in Barcelona.
Another of the emblems of Anís del Mono is its bottle. It was on a trip to Paris, when Vicente Bosch fell in love with a bottle of perfume that he gave to his wife. After asking the perfumer for the rights to the container, in 1902 he registered it by putting the famous label with the monkey.

It is a bronze statue of about 200 kg. which pays tribute to the historic Badalona brand of Anís del Mono, which continues to be manufactured in the city today. It is the work of the Badalona artist Susana Ruiz. It is an exempt figure sitting on a concrete block that reproduces the monkey from the Anise del Mono label. So the body has the shape of a monkey, but it has a human face. The statue observes a bottle of anise which it holds in its left hand.
