St. Lioba Church (Former Monastery Church)

It is one of the oldest women's monasteries in Germany and has played an important historical and spiritual role in the region. Saint Lioba is venerated as a virgin and saint in the Catholic and Orthodox churches. Her relics are in St. Lioba's Church.

The Benedictine convent in Tauberbischofsheim was founded in 735 by St. Boniface as one of the first German convents for women. Bonifatius appointed his relative, Saint Lioba von Tauberbischofsheim, as the first abbess.
