    The hiking trail begins in Stadtsteinach at the parish church “St. Michael". This church was completely rebuilt in the years 1904-1905 after the fire disaster of 1903. The stately Neurococo church stands on the highest point of the city hill. The 56 m high west tower as the city's landmark can be seen from afar. Above the main portal in red sandstone, the Archangel Michael fighting the dragon. To the right of the entrance is a representation of the Mount of Olives from 1772/74.

      Here is a 330 cm high sandstone mason with a simple iron cross as a crown. On all sides of the profiled square base are reliefs of winged angel heads with leaf decorations on the edges. The round shaft is covered with foliage, angel heads and inscriptions. The cartouche on the front bears the following inscription: "God / the most holy / trinity / to honor has / Andreas schott / this set / lase". On the back is chiseled: "God / to honor / Has this renovate / read / Conrad / geyer". The year inscribed underneath recalls 1756. There are various images of angels on the Ionic capital. On the four-page essay, on the front the coronation of Our Lady by the Holy Trinity, God the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Mary kneels on the globe. On the back Jesus on the cross with Mary and John and on the edges carrying angels. On the left the Archangel Michael and in a cartouche below: “S. MICHAEL / BITT / FOR US ”. On the right side the Madonna of Mercy of Marienweiher. She carries the baby Jesus in her right arm and the scepter in her left hand. The cartridge below with the inscription: “S. Maria / Zu Weier ”.
