The story about the Germanic or pre-Christian sacrificial site is not historically proven, but it is still a nice (and quite believable) story. However, the stone slab of the sacrificial table (made of foreign stone) was only "rediscovered" in 1937 and re-erected in its current form. At that time, as is well known, there was a pronounced cult of Germanic myths.
