The power plant is located in the "Große Isar" west of the Praterinsel. The Prater weir was built here to branch off the water for the factory stream that feeds the Eisbach in the English Garden. After the weir and some concrete cascades, the large Isar reunites with the Small Isar, which flows around the Praterinsel on the east side. The difference in height between the weir and the cascades is used to generate energy. In order not to change the appearance on site, the power plant was mostly built underground. After the inlet structure directly at the western end of the weir, the pressure line runs almost completely under the river arm. The power plant itself is located under the last cascade stage and is not visible from the outside. The power plant, which is equipped with a Kaplan bulb turbine, has an output of 2.5 MW.
