Most of the houses in this area were built in the 16th and 17th centuries. This applies, for example, to many of the beautiful farms along the Nørregade, Overgade and Nedergade. Oluf Bager and Hans Mule were among the wealthiest merchants in Odense and owned extensive possessions both in and out of town. It was a society with an extremely wide range from rich to poor.
