Funen Art Academy

The Funen Art Academy is a state-recognized institution offering a five-year program for visual artists at the highest level.
The academy has a long history, dating back to 1944,
when it was founded as a private drawing and painting school.
Since 1972, it has been an independent institution with state and municipal funding.The Funen Art Academy is located in a historic building
at Jernbanegade 13, which formerly housed the Funen Art Museum.
The academy places a strong focus on the diverse practices and theories
of contemporary art and offers non-media-specific training.

Until 2014 the building housed Fyns Kunstmuseum. Fyns Kunstmuseum was a museum of Danish art from 1750, with a special focus on Danish concrete and constructivist art. Since the art collection was established in the 1880s, the museum has assembled a representative art collection from the area on and around Funen.Funen Art Museum closed as an independent museum in 2014. Since 2018 the building has housed the Funen Art Academy.
