Statue by Eiler Madsen (1939-2011). This is an interpretation of one of Hans Christian Andersen's favorite themes; the romance between two inanimate objects. The one-legged tin soldier falls in love with a paper ballerina, and just as the toy in the author's story is humanized through his adventures, so the artist behind the sculpture tried to portray him.

The sculpture "The Steadfast Tin Soldier" in Odense is an impressive interpretation of one of Hans Christian Andersen's favorite themes.
The bronze sculpture was created by Eiler Madsen and depicts the one-legged tin soldier falling in love with a paper ballerina. This depiction tries to reflect the adventures and humanity of the toy from Andersen's story.
An interesting detail is that Madsen was against guns and therefore designed the soldier's rifle in such a way that it could never be used in real life.
