Hiking

This casemate is a so-called river casemate, consisting of three floors and armed with cannon and machine gun. The casemate was built in 1936 together with two other casemates in the area. One next to the ramp to the bridge (Lent-Midden) and the other next to the railway (Lent-West). The casemates played an important role in destroying the railway and road bridges over the Waal, as soon as the German army invaded the Netherlands. For example, an advance had to be forced to a halt.

"Fort Boven Lent", "Sergeant Robinson Viaduct", "Brugkazemat Lent Oost"; As we approach Nijmegen, we are again reminded of the front line that passed through here during World War II. The thought of war and ambush accompanies us admonishingly, absolutely unexpectedly, constantly on our hike. It was inconceivable that there could be war in Europe again. May peace come to Ukraine.
