Bad Elster can look back on a long theater tradition: performances in the “Alberttheater” on Brunnenberg began as early as 1888.
In 1913, the theater company founded in Bad Elster commissioned the famous Chemnitz architects Alfred Zapp and Erich Basarke to plan and build a modern, representative theater. After less than two years of construction, today's "König Albert Theater" was opened on May 22, 1914 by King Friedrich August III. of Saxony was ceremoniously opened as the last German court theater.
The impressive architecture and the artistic interior design in the public areas with two boxes continue to delight visitors to this day.
