The church was built directly next to a previous building - the old village church of St Peter and Paul - in the neo-Gothic style and consecrated in 1892. The strong, square west tower reaches a height of 54 meters. The altar and pulpit were carved from oak by the Dresden company Weißbach. The altar crucifix is a work from Oberammergau. The stained glass windows come from the Institute for Stained Glass in Dresden and are particularly impressive: the Last Supper on the left, the Ascension Day in the middle and the Sermon on the Mount on the right. In 1973, the current organ was rebuilt in the old case.
In addition to the Gothic figures of the apostles, the baroque figure of Christ made of green by Simon Zeitler should also be mentioned, which has been attached to the triumphal arch since it was renovated in 1992. It stood above the altarpiece in the village church of St. Peter and Paul, which was demolished in 1892. With almost 800 seats, the new Elsteran church is still ideal for the size of the spa and church community.
