Today, the Untermühle can only be found on old photos and pictures. It was at the western end of Stobenstrasse. Around 1960 the Altenau was also piped in the Stobenstraße area.
Parts of the bridge and the canal cover were uncovered under the nursery's shop. The free flood still runs under the houses today.
In the picture on the left, just before the junction with the Altenau, the free flood emerges from under the houses. At the end of 2004, the bridge over the Altenau, built in 1758, had to be renewed at this point due to dilapidation. In the photo on the right we can still see parts of the old bridge arch and the canal cover under the current shop of the Isensee nursery, which were uncovered during the repair work. In the oil painting by the Brunswick painter Werner Suchatzky, the Freiflut flows into the Altenau behind the Untermühle. Oil painting by Werner Suchatzky.
