Breitenau Memorial

The Breitenau Memorial is located in Guxhagen, 15 km south of Kassel, directly on the A7 motorway. It is located in the monastery's former tithe barn, on the grounds of a facility run by Vitos Kurhessen for chronically mentally ill people.
What is remarkable about the remains of this concentration and labor education camp is the preservation of many documents, in spite of the files being destroyed by the SS at the end of the war, including the main admission book of the state labor institute from 1895 to 1945.
The historian and memorial site educator Ann Katrin Düben has been in charge of the memorial site since 2019.
