The Scharfenstein is a basalt cone of a long-extinct volcano. Anyone who wants to climb there - sturdy shoes are a must - should at least have some experience. There was a fatal fall there in the past.
If you just want to go climbing there, you can also do so by car. There is a car park right there on the A49 KASSEL - FRITZLAR. But the Scharfenstein is also a nice stopover/destination and rest area for hikers and cyclists.

To get to the viewing platform, you have to go past the Scharfenstein on the right and past the fireplace on the left. Then there is a rotten bench, there on the left you go to the viewing platform. However, this climb is NOT recommended with a dog, poor fitness and poor footwear,
