Since November 5, 2010, the Appelbrug can be found at the Appelbrugparkje in the Jan Breydelstraat. It is an 8-ton fiberglass pedestrian bridge that provides the connection over the Lieve with the Oude Vismijn.

The Appelbrugparkje refers to the former Appelbrug, located over the filled-in canal “Houtlei”, which connected two parts of the Jan Breydelstraat. In contrast to the current one, this bridge was a stone arch bridge.
Initially this bridge was called the Minnebrug, of which a first mention around 1322 as the “ter Minnen brucge”. It was the last bridge before the Houtlei surrendered to the Lieve.

Gent Appelbrug It was only from the 16th century that it was given the name "Appelbrug" after a nearby café "de Gulden Appel" (late 15th century) located on the site of the current museum of decorative art that was realized in 1754. In 1760 the bridge was renovated up.

In 1869, the road could be lowered by about 40 cm by using a fixed bridge in sheet iron through which the donkey's back (arch) hid in the roadway. This in turn was widened by the demolition of a building that stood out in front of the other buildings.
