Due to a ducal order to prevent fires, the communities were obliged to build community bakeries in the 19th century, as fires kept breaking out in the houses while baking. Master bakers ensured order and cleanliness and assigned baking positions for a period of three hours. The bakery was also a place for a lively exchange of information.
