As early as 1864 Franz Späth founded the Späth nurseries as part of his gardening empire. In a short time, the plant grew to the largest nursery in the world. In the 1880s, the plant was transformed into a large garden. In 1961, the garden was handed over to the Faculty of Biology at Humboldt University. Today you can explore the arboretum and discover over 1,200 different woody plants and about 4,000 medicinal and spice plant species.
The arboretum is open from early April to late October on Wednesday, Thursday, weekends and public holidays. You can roam the large garden between 10am and 6pm.
