Hiking Highlight
Sunbathing lawn, jetty, cozy beer garden and canoe rental - the Insel der Jugend is the perfect place to spend the whole day here. While the beer garden at the Zenner can get quite crowded in summer, there is still a certain cosiness here.

The Insel der Jugend, abbey island until 1949, is an island in the Berlin Spree in the Treptow-Köpenick district and belongs to the Alt-Treptow district. It is located between Treptower Park and the Plänterwald forest across from the Stralau peninsula.
In 1860, the citizen of Rixdorf, Emil Heinicke, acquired the previously abandoned island, the Rohr Island, from the city. On old maps it is called Treppbruch or Treptower Bruch. At that time it was nothing more than a small elevation overgrown with reeds. With the help of street garbage and earth, an area of around 1.8 hectares was gradually created.
In the 1950s, the East Berlin magistrate had a girls' dormitory built on the island.
In April 2010, the Kulturalarm e. V. the operation. The management regularly organizes cultural events on the island, including concerts, parties, theater performances, children's parties and cinema evenings. The girls' dormitory was retained and continues to be used. It offers space for ten girls as well as space for babies and toddlers.
Many people are familiar with the beer garden right next to the Abbey Bridge with a great view of the Spree.
