Originally founded in 1896 as the first teacher training college in a Saxon village, the Plauen grammar school was distinguished by two foundations, the “Plauen Citizenship”. The award went to the best high school graduate and the musically particularly skilled seminarist. The facility, which was converted into a grammar school in 1922, also includes an observatory. Designed by Herrmann Risse, the head of school astronomy, it was created in 1960/61 as a joint effort by teachers, parents and students as part of the national structure.
