The bust, which was erected in 1873 on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of Schleswig-Holstein's uprising in 1848, stands on a high base. The person depicted - Uwe Jens Lornsen, is referred to as the "first martyr of the Schleswig-Holstein cause". He wasn't a political victim, but he was an independent advocate. Uwe Jens Lornsen was born on November 18, 1793 in Keitum on Sylt. He was a lawyer and civil servant in the Danish government. Through his writing Ueber das Verfassungswerk in Schleswigholstein he became a champion of a united and independent Schleswig-Holstein. He died on February 13, 1838 in Pressy on Lake Geneva.

The "Lornsendenkmal" erected in 1878 on the edge of the Paradeplatz commemorates the freedom fighter Uwe Jens Lornsen (1793 - 1838), who lived in Rendsburg from 1831 to 1832 and was temporarily imprisoned in the Hauptwache on Paradeplatz.
