The Landknechthaus was built in the 16th century and originally served as a dwelling for the Landknechts who were responsible for protecting the town. The "Alter Landsknecht" was used as a restaurant until 2011. After years of vacancy, the historic building changed hands in 2016, was extensively renovated and is now used privately.

"Gasthus fom Landsknecht 1541" is written in golden letters on a crossbar on the front of the historic half-timbered house at Schleifmühlenstraße 2. And a little further: "Vroelik gaht ut", including a carved cleat with a man stretching his bare buttocks towards the viewer .
The facade of the historic inn from 1541 is decorated with carved folk, grotesque and biblical figures: beggar, musician, councilor and John the Baptist. The colored figures support the second, cantilevered floor of the wide, two-story half-timbered gabled house. Further ornamental decoration can be found on the final crossbeam of the ground floor. In the compartments, the facade is designed in traditional infill brick patterns.

The building was demolished in 1951 and rebuilt using the original facade, the ground floor is slightly modified today.

The Alte Landsknecht was used as a restaurant until 2011. Then it stood empty for a few years and found a new owner in 2016, who renovated it professionally.
A real eye-catcher and great that it was preserved for all of us.

The oldest town house in the city "Zum Landsknecht" from 1541 was decorated with grotesque biblical, folk and carved figures. On the facade you can see beggars, musicians, councilors and John the Baptist.
In 1951 the building was demolished and the original facade was rebuilt using reuse.
Until 2011 the building was used as a restaurant. After years of vacancy, a residential building was built from the historic building and is privately owned. Only the facade is reminiscent of the historic inn.
