The Reichstag building (abbreviated: Reichstag, officially: Reichstag building) at Platz der Republik in Berlin has been the seat of the German Bundestag since 1999. The Federal Assembly has been convening here since 1994 to elect the German Federal President.
Built in neo-Renaissance style in the Tiergarten district by Paul Wallot from 1884 to 1894, the building on the left bank of the Spree accommodated both the Reichstag of the German Empire and the Diet of the Weimar Republic. After severe damage caused by the Reichstag fire of 1933 and during the Second World War, the building was restored in the 1960s in a modernized form and from 1991 to 1999 again fundamentally reshaped
