The history of the beaver in Hanover is actually quite short. 2013 saw the first in Döhren, Herrenhausen, Laatzen and Seelze. And these have only been observed in the inner city area since 2019. The bite marks on Leine and Ihme around Linden-Nord have increased significantly from 2019. The number of beavers in Hanover is estimated at around 100 and in the region at 150. The beavers here are still strictly protected against being shot down. City hunter Pyka considers the return of the beavers to be a natural success story. The effects would give the fish more shelter to spawn. The city hunter considers it unlikely that the number of beavers in Hanover will continue to rise, as they live monogamous and would eventually drive away the offspring. Hanover is therefore “full” for beavers. Beavers are particularly easy to see in winter, as they tend to be on the move early in the morning in search of food.
