In July 2009, the community of Breitbrunn announced a competition for a Stations of the Cross that was intended to establish a connection to the surrounding quarries, in which many residents of Breitbrunn have worked in a long tradition. The jury ultimately chose the sculptor Steffi Bauer from Schweinfurt. Figures and scenes of the Way of the Cross were carved out of rough boulders from these quarries. The stations thus enter into a natural symbiosis with the attractive Lower Franconian landscape. The association “Freundeskreis Kreuzweg Breitbrunn e.V.” takes care of the care and preservation of the cultural monument.
