The former fortification was first mentioned in 1354 and consisted of a tower-reinforced wall, six fortified gates, trenches and a rampart. The battlements (last) used to move around the entire area. Remnants of the wall can still be seen in the street "An der Letze". It bears various inscriptions about destruction and reconstruction. There is also the Powder Tower, the last remaining defensive tower.

I have great respect for these defensive walls, which often appear quite low. Not just the design but the purpose - because back then there was still hand-to-hand fighting and it was about really important things: resources to be able to live.
