The name “kriegshoven” has no military background, as is often incorrectly assumed. The name “kriegshoven” contains, in addition to the word “hoven” for farm, the Low German epithet “kreek” or “kreech”, which means “wet, damp”. Consequently, the name refers to the damp, marshy terrain on which the castle was built.

A very beautiful moated castle, despite the rather martial-sounding name - which Elfi explains in her article - the visitor can feel at home here...
