The moated castle, first mentioned in a document in the 13th century, is located in the Rhein-Sieg district between Bonn and Cologne on the edge of the Eifel. Today the castle and farm are privately owned by the von Scherenberg family for the sixth generation.

The founding date is not exactly known, but already in the middle of the 13th century the lords of Kriegshoven were mentioned for the first time in writing. The monastery of St. Kunibert transferred a pond to the owner Heinrich von Creshovin in 1247.
The preserved core of the castle, a two-storey angular building, dates back to the 16th century.
The corresponding impression of a Renaissance castle still works today.
