The eye-catcher in Kobbegem is the parish church of St. Gorik and Magdalena. Its history dates back to 1356. The dual designation refers to the fact that there were once two churches. The first must have been in the eighth century, near today's Sint-Gorikswijk and the Torenhof, a historic farm with a 14th-century keep. Around 1100 the abbey of Affligem gained a foothold in Kobbegem and so a new residential core was created more to the north. The old St. Gorik's Church was left in ruins after the religious unrest during the 16th century.

The central aisle of the current church dates from the St. Magdalen Chapel and the west tower, in late Gothic style, is from the 16th century. Side aisles were added at the beginning of the 17th century and in 1647 the tower - once pre-built - was built in. The entrance was given a Baroque frame and a transept was added in 1645. In 1649 the church was covered with a ribbed vault, which previously had a wooden ceiling. A choir was added in the 2nd half of the 18th century.

Several restoration works took place in the 19th and 20th centuries.
