    Hiking

The 4200 meter long Kautzthaler Graben ran on the slope of the Rothenberg above the dam ditch. He collected water near the summit and channeled it over the Schwarzenberg watercourse and the Huttaler Widerwaage into the Hirschler pond. For this highest and most important mining pond near Clausthal, this meant a doubling of the catchment area.
The Kautzthaler Graben is still clearly recognizable on the mountain slope, but has long since failed to fulfill its former purpose. In some sections there is water, but it no longer flows off.

There is an information board about the Kreutzthaler Graben here. Unfortunately, there is not much left to see of the ditch itself, which makes these informative signs about the various ditches and reservoirs of the Upper Harz water shelf all the more important.
Always interesting for me as a true Harz native - for example, I didn't know before that this ditch belongs to the Hutthaler Widerwaage.

Here you can find information on the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Upper Harz Water Management" on the Kautzthal Graben.
