The hiking trail follows the Huttaler Graben for a little over a kilometer. It is part of the water system of the Huttaler Widerwaage. The special thing about it: it has no gradient. This enabled the water to be transported in both directions - a technical masterpiece, especially when you consider that the trench was only built with human and animal power and that there was no comparable system until this trench was built in the 1760s.

On this section you walk on a narrow path always along the trench. Ferns and blueberry bushes grow along the way and every now and then you can catch a beautiful view of the trees - a wonderful path!

As part of the Upper Harz water shelf, an impressive structure. Especially in view of the fact that the whole thing was built only with human and animal power.

The Huttaler Graben is part of the cultural monument Oberharzer Wasserregal. If you come here very early in the morning and the first rays of sunlight creep over the trees, there are fantastic light effects to watch.

You hardly notice that you are walking on an aqueduct and you get an idea of how burdensome the building must be.
